How LEDs and double screens power 30 million gerberas at Hollandia Greenhouse
Hollandia Greenhouses is one of North America’s largest producers of Gerbera daisies, growing approximately 30 million blooms each year in a high-tech greenhouse in Pitt Meadows, British Columbia. The operation uses advanced controlled environment agriculture, including precise light, photoperiod, and climate control, to deliver consistent flower quality and reliable vase life.
Crop activated before the lighting switches on
In recent years, Genson has made the transition to LED lighting at its strawberry production sites in Someren. This also brought the challenge of keeping the greenhouse climate active, despite the loss of radiant heat from SON-T lighting. Genson therefore decided to invest in ClimaFlow Fans from Svensson. “The vertical fans ensure that the plants are ‘switched on’ before we turn on the lighting. In this way, we get the maximum return from our lighting.”
