For ANSU Orchids, energy savings and precision go hand in hand. Working closely with Holland Scherming and Svensson, the nursery upgraded to the new Obscura 9970 FR A blackout screen, combining innovation, trust, and craftsmanship.
At ANSU in Wateringen, precision, quality, and energy savings are paramount. The 8.8-hectare nursery continuously invests in innovations to optimize the greenhouse climate and utilize energy more efficiently. In October 2024, the Obscura 9950 FR W climate screen was replaced by the updated, exclusive, and more energy-efficient Obscura 9970 FR A. The project was carried out by Holland Scherming , ANSU's long-standing installer. Leon Bekenes, account manager at Holland Scherming, and Ed Helderman, owner of ANSU, discuss the impact of this investment and the smooth collaboration.
Smart blackout and saving
"The old screen had been in place since 2010 and was really due for replacement," says Ed. "We wanted to take immediate steps towards energy savings and ended up with the new Obscura 9970 FR A, which offers better insulation than its predecessor." The updated screen is made entirely of aluminum, prevents the emission of artificial light, and saves additional energy. Ed combines the Obscura screen with the Luxous 1547 D FR climate screen for diffuse light in his greenhouse.
Custom installation: working above a full greenhouse
Replacing a screen in a running nursery requires precision. ANSU's greenhouse is always full of orchids, which presents an additional challenge. "At ANSU, we always have to work above the plants," explains Leon from Holland Scherming. "We use a monorail system to move over the tables and/or plants and replace the screens with precision. This requires not only craftsmanship but also seamless collaboration between the installer and the grower."
Replacing nearly two hectares of screens took about three weeks. "The collaboration with ANSU has been smooth for years," says Leon.
