Vandalorum

The interior architect and designer Pierre Sindre is this year’s Bruno Mathsson award winner, and the exhibition at the Vandalorum museum in Värnamo is framed by hanging textiles from Svensson.

Pierre Sindre runs his own design studio in Stockholm and has received several awards, including prizes for “Furniture of the Year”, and now the prestigious Bruno Mathsson award. Pierre’s mission is to create furniture for humans with a focus on ease of use and durability, two factors that are often in high demand in the public environment.

 – I often work according to clear need, where form and function really need to go hand in hand. When I succeed with both is when I can really feel that have done a good job, says Pierre Sindre.

"The textiles carry the exhibition" 

The current exhibition at Vandolorum is framed by the hanging textile Karat RE, which with its yellow tones manages to merge with the floor that is painted in the same nuance. The suffix RE highlights the fact that the textile is made entirely out of recycled material. The textiles turned out to be a valued element and provided the effect that Pierre had been looking for.

– The exhibition is located in a large room, almost a hall, and my goal was to see textiles run from floor to ceiling. It creates a feeling of spatiality and Karat RE captures the light in a way that creates both drama and excitement. The textile has really helped set the tone and has been greatly appreciated by the visitors, says Pierre Sindre.

The exhibition is based on objects that Pierre was inspired by during the design process – and the objects also became part of the exhibition itself. He explains how he finds inspiration in everything, from fashion, film, or even a grill in a shower room. Even Svensson upholstery fabric Club became part of the inspiration. 

– For me, it’s a lot about finding and seeing things in other things. Behind each piece of furniture is a screen wall of stretched fabric that invokes the feeling of thin rice paper. Trying to guess what’s on the other side tickles the curiosity and also adds a bit of excitement. You can clearly say that the textiles carry the exhibition, says Pierre Sindre.
