    Gothenburg, Sweden

When Brekke & Strand Akustik wanted to create a better sound environment in their meeting rooms, there was a clear desire to reduce noise, while also having a flexible solution that suits both physical and digital meetings. Hanging fabrics from Svensson turned out to meet several requirements.

Brekke & Strand Akustik in Gothenburg is located just east of the busy E6 traffic route, but in the office's meeting rooms, the traffic noise is imperceptible. The company has been operating here for a few years, and over time, the need for flexible workspaces and meeting rooms has grown. In new social areas, where people meet both physically and digitally, a better sound environment was needed – but there was also a desire for screening to minimize reflections from and to the office landscape.

– A major advantage of hanging fabrics is their flexibility. When needed, the fabric can be used to screen off the large glass sections of the meeting rooms. In this way, those working in the office landscape can maintain their focus without being disturbed by an ongoing meeting, says Marius Castberg Bråthen, department manager in Gothenburg and senior acoustics consultant.

For the project, Svensson's sound-rated fabrics Tune and Grain were used. The fabrics were chosen because, besides their sound-rated functions, they also became an appreciated decorative element.

– The fabrics provide an attractive visual impression while also helping to improve the overall sound environment. In our meeting rooms, we have incorporated a lot of fabric, which allows us to adjust the sound environment for different meetings, and we can also adjust for light ingress or visibility, says Marius Castberg Bråthen.

Reducing noise and helping the staff working in the office to find focus was naturally the main goal, but even those working remotely could benefit from the improved sound environment.

– The sound environment becomes more pleasant for us in the room, but the sound is actually perceived as better and clearer even by the recipient during a video meeting, says Marius Castberg Bråthen.
