At Munktells in Eskilstuna, Volvo Construction Equipment has created a contemporary workplace and meeting place where industrial heritage meets new ideas. With an interior concept by Theresia Svanholm of Bang Universe, the project brings together thoughtful material choices, flexible spaces and Svensson textile Day in an environment designed to encourage collaboration and creativity.

Located in the heart of Eskilstuna, Munktells serves as Volvo Construction Equipment’s innovation centre and a meeting place for employees, businesses, researchers, students and other members of the community. More than a traditional office, it is a space designed to bring people and ideas together, creating opportunities for new perspectives and collaborations.
The interior concept draws inspiration from Munktells’ industrial heritage, connecting the character of the historic surroundings with the needs of a contemporary workplace. Industrial references are balanced with a warm and welcoming atmosphere, creating an environment that feels both rooted in its location and open to the future.
Throughout the project, the design supports different ways of working and interacting. Spaces for focused work sit alongside areas for spontaneous conversations, creative processes and larger gatherings, encouraging both individual concentration and shared experiences.
Material choices play an important role in shaping the character of Munktells. By combining existing interior elements with carefully selected new additions, the project demonstrates how reuse and contemporary design can work together.
Svensson textile Day forms part of this considered material palette, introducing a soft textile expression that complements the architectural surroundings. Together with the other materials and furnishings, the textile contributes to the welcoming atmosphere and the overall visual identity of the space.
Sustainability has been a guiding principle throughout the project, with an emphasis on reuse, conscious material choices and long-term solutions. Existing resources are given new purpose, while new elements are introduced with consideration for both aesthetics and longevity.
The result is a workplace that respects its industrial roots while creating space for future innovation. A setting where architecture, materials and people come together to support new ways of working, meeting and collaborating.
The project has also been nominated for Sweden’s Best Looking Office 2026 (Sveriges Snyggaste Kontor).
