At Lagmansgården in Jakobstad, textiles play a central role in shaping both the acoustic environment and the overall experience of the space.

The residence, developed as part of Finland’s state child protection system, is designed to support rehabilitation not only through care and education but also through the physical environment. The architecture, designed by Anttinen Oiva Architects, combines natural materials, daylight, and views of the surrounding forest to create a calm and structured environment.

Sound, structure, and spatial balance

Within this architectural whole, Svensson’s textiles Grain and Blush are used to actively support the interior's acoustic quality. The fabrics are developed for sound absorption and help to reduce noise levels as well as limit sound propagation between different rooms, contributing to a more controlled and pleasant everyday environment.

With their distinct constructions – Grain with its textured surface and subtle depth, and Blush with its softer expression and fine micro-pattern – the textiles add both acoustic function and a tactile, visual layer to the interior.

– "The rooms were designed to encourage, respect, and rehabilitate young people, while also allowing supervision and safety", says architect Selina Anttinen.

Textiles that support focus and recovery

The interior concept is based on a homelike feel, with a restrained colour palette drawn from the surrounding landscape. Here, the textiles play an important role by supporting acoustic comfort, enhancing the visual whole, and helping to define different zones without creating physical barriers.

– "There is something here that calms people", states assistant director Jan Weckström.

The result is an environment where textiles, architecture, and acoustics interact, creating conditions for focus, recovery, and a sense of continuity in everyday life.
