At the Schenkeveld greenhouse complex near Schiphol Airport in the Netherlands, energy efficiency has become a key focus. In response to rising energy costs, Schenkeveld decided to install a second energy screen across all greenhouse locations within a single year.
Schenkeveld has worked closely with installation partner Peter Dekker Installaties (PDI) for many years. Once the decision was made, the rollout moved quickly. Every greenhouse location is now equipped with a double energy screen system that can be used throughout the year to improve energy savings and climate control.
For the second screen layer, Schenkeveld selected Luxous 1147 FR from Svensson. The screen combines high light transmission with strong energy-saving performance and durability. According to owner Richard Schenkeveld, previous positive experience with Luxous played an important role in the choice.

The scale of the project is significant. During the current phase, double energy screens have been installed across three greenhouse locations, covering a total of 33 hectares. In addition, a new 44-hectare greenhouse expansion at Schiphol is under construction, with energy screens already installed. The remaining greenhouses are scheduled for completion in the coming year.
A slip-in installation system was used for the screens. With this method, the screen cloth is pulled into position from the side of the greenhouse without the use of clips. Installers only need to work at height along the sidewalls, improving safety and allowing faster installation.
Previously, Schenkeveld relied on fixed greenhouse foil during winter for approximately eight weeks to limit heat loss. This approach required additional labor and precise timing. With the new double energy screen system, the second screen can be deployed at the push of a button, providing flexible and efficient energy management throughout the year.
Curious what made it all work?
