Step 1
Cut a piece of the material that covers your hole in the screen.
The easiest way to get the most out of your Svensson screen is to keep it clean. Dust can simply be rinsed off, while algae growth may seem more challenging—yet the solution is straightforward.
The main cause of algae growth is a screen that remains humid or wet without drying out. When the screen is closed during cold nights, condensation forms in the morning. If the screen is bundled while still wet, it cannot dry properly, which eventually leads to algae.
To avoid this, we recommend partially opening the screen during the day so it can dry. This prevents algae from forming. If algae is already present, sunlight will naturally kill much of the growth. However, in some cases additional treatment with chemicals may be necessary. Always use chemicals sparingly to avoid damaging the screen, and never apply them with high pressure.
H₂O₂ (Hydrogen Peroxide): Dilute according to the supplier’s instructions. When applied, it works as a detergent as long as the screen remains wet. As it dries, the hydrogen peroxide naturally breaks down into water (H₂O) and oxygen (O₂), leaving no residue. Rinsing is not required.
We do not recommend using any other products for cleaning Svensson screens. If other products are used, take the following precautions to minimize damage:
Always rinse the screen thoroughly with clean water after treatment.
Avoid applying the product on warm, sunny days.
Never use products containing chloride or sulfur, as these significantly increase the risk of damage and shorten screen lifespan.
If a small tear is made in a Svensson screen, it can be repaired with a piece of matching material.
Equipment: Piece of matching material, a pair of scissors, UV-stabilized double-sided repair tape.

Cut a piece of the material that covers your hole in the screen.

Unroll a piece of tape and firmly press the tape onto the bottom side of the material.

Continue and cover the full piece with tape.

Remove the paper backing from the tape, match up the material's lines, and firmly apply the sticky side down onto the screen.

When properly applied, you can run the screen as normal again.
