In 2021, after 15 years, the previous Svensson climate screen at tomato grower Wouter van Wijk’s greenhouse in Bleiswijk, Netherlands, was overdue for replacement. He chose a new Luxous 1147 FR energy screen. Why? “To save as much energy as possible,” says Wouter. A fresh, new, bright screen. And he notices it. “I can leave it closed longer.”
Brother Jos went ahead of him during a crop change in 2019. He replaced the old Svensson climate screen with a new Luxous 1147 FR. During the Christmas season of 2020, Wouter’s greenhouse was also updated. He, too, chose the Luxous 1147 FR. Reliability and quality were important in his decision. “I have enjoyed the previous screen from Svensson for a long time, so of course I hope to have that again.”
Improved energy savings
The previous screen was already about 15 years old. Wouter notices the difference with the new screen significantly. “The experience is as expected. I can leave it closed for longer, keep it closed longer, to save energy. The old screen had to open sooner because of dirt buildup, because it let less and less light through.”
The screen replacement was carried out by Harm van Holsteijn Montage. “He is there personally and doesn’t send a subcontractor, for example. I like working that way,” says Wouter. Harm previously installed the climate screen for brother Jos and is therefore not unknown to the Van Wijk family.
The replacement went smoothly, says Harm. “We also immediately replaced the nylon guide threads. We actually always do that to prevent the nylon from rubbing against the aluminum. That causes ugly streaks on the screen. That’s why we usually take care of it at the same time. These threads had also been on for quite a few years, so that was necessary anyway.”
Experience and reliability
Harm says that Wouter made his choice for the Luxous 1147 FR fairly quickly. “In my proposal, I also included some other screens from other suppliers for comparison. But the good experience with Svensson and the reliability of the screen quickly made the difference.”
