Gebroeders Van Duijn is a leading Dutch eggplant operation with more than 22 hectares of cultivation area across three greenhouse locations in southwestern Holland. Their Westdorpe site includes a 10-hectare greenhouse dedicated to intensive eggplant production. For this grower, stable greenhouse climate and energy efficiency are key priorities.
Last winter, the operation’s older Luxous 1243 D energy screen was replaced with Svensson’s new ultra-transparent, crystal-clear, energy-saving Luxous 1147 FR climate screen. Both the owner, Jan van Duijn, and the crop supervisor, Ruud Suykerbuyk, have been very satisfied with climate control and cultivation results since the installation.
The high level of light transmission that Luxous 1147 FR provides during winter months plays a major role in the improved growing conditions. Because the screen allows more light into the greenhouse, growers can keep the screen closed for longer after sunrise, improving temperature regulation and reducing the need for supplemental heat from pipes.

“Luxous 1147 FR allows us to reduce our use of heating pipes to achieve the greenhouse temperature we need,” Jan explained. He noted that the new screen saves about 4 percent more energy than the previous Luxous 1243 D screen.
The result has been more uniform crop development across the three greenhouse houses, despite differences in cultivation from year to year. The improved light conditions and energy savings from the Luxous 1147 FR screen have made the winter growing season more efficient and predictable.
Curious what made it all work?
