At the GreenTech trade show, Svensson is introducing three new solutions that help growers reduce energy consumption while achieving a better climate and crop quality in their greenhouses. “Energy-saving is back at the top of the priority list,” says CEO Anders Ludvigson. “The recent period shocked the market and there’s now a higher level in contract pricing. Energy-saving has been a focus at Svensson almost since we started making screens after the 1970s oil crises, but now there’s a real interest from customers to go further.”

ENERGYperfect is a double screen solution designed for extra energy savings at night. It combines a new all-aluminum Obscura climate screen with a Luxous energy screen to help growers save energy while maintaining a uniform greenhouse climate.

Energy Monitor is a real-time monitoring tool in LetsGrow.com that visualizes energy and cost savings — and missed savings — when using climate screens. It also provides automated advice on the optimal screen strategy so growers can get the most out of their climate screens.

PARperfect Cooling adapts the PARperfect concept for warmer climates. It is designed specifically to reduce high cooling costs in semi-closed greenhouses while still supporting even light distribution.
Each of the three solutions includes expert support from Svensson’s advisory service, Climate House. “As a grower, you need solutions, not just new equipment,” says Climate Expert Ton Habraken. “For each of the solution packages we’ve designed a program of Climate House advisory sessions based on the insights we’ve gathered over many years of best practice.”
For the launch of Energy Monitor, Svensson’s R&D team has developed a module on LetsGrow.com that uses greenhouse climate data to calculate current and historical savings. Linked to this, Energy Monitor offers unique, automated recommendations to maximize energy savings by adjusting screen positions and strategies.
Svensson is also introducing a new flame-retardant Obscura all-aluminum climate screen as part of the ENERGYperfect package. According to product manager Paul Arkesteijn, this screen blocks assimilation light, has a high screening value and can be applied in lighted crops to help retain heat and raise plant temperatures. “It gives additional energy savings and is a very good match for LED lighted crops,” he says.
Arkesteijn was also involved in developing the PARperfect Cooling solution: “This is a great example of applying a proven concept — namely PARperfect — and focusing all this knowledge and technology on one problem — reducing cooling costs in semi-closed greenhouses in hot regions.”
