Triple layer installation allows for better climate control at Mexico research and training facility

Established over sixty years ago by Mexico’s federal government, the Trust Funds for Rural Development (FIRA) is a second-tier development bank that offers credit and guarantees, training, technical assistance and technology-transfer support to the agriculture and agribusiness sectors in Mexico.

Today FIRA’s main objective is to stimulate the agricultural sector in Mexico. Achieving this objective is based on various strategic approaches, one of which include strengthening projects’ structuring by offering training and technical assistance to small producers’ projects. Subsidies offered in the form of vouchers for training and assistance related to technology development are often provided to rural producers by FIRA.

firaThe Tezoyuca Technology Development Center, located in the town of Tezoyuca, Morelos is a research facility operated by FIRA that offers training and support to small and medium size companies. The center, which is led by Engineer Marco Antonio Guzman Nogueda, provides special attention to the field of Ornamental Horticulture. Equipped with a Laboratory for Micropropagation of plants, the center is considered to be the largest and best equipped of its kind in Mexico.

To achieve the foregoing, the head of the unit, Biologist Ricardo Flores O., comments that one of the most delicate stages involved in the micropropagation technique of plants at a commercial level is acclimatization. This area requires suitable conditions of luminosity, temperature, and relative humidity.

To obtain the necessary climate conditions the center looked to Svensson and after careful consideration opted to install SOLARO 6720 O E WB, a permanent exterior shade along with two retractable interior screens. An open weave HARMONY 5220 O screen provides diffused light to lower temperatures during the day while a thermal TEMPA 7567 D screen helps maintain the minimum temperature during winter nights, as well as providing additional shade during spring and summer days.

Some of the highlighted benefits of the triple layer screen installation include the minimal use of fans and the ability to maintain optimum temperature and humidity levels during the day as well as throughout the night.

The construction and equipment used in the greenhouses are more than fulfilling the objective and better control is achieved when it comes to temperature, luminosity, and relative humidity factors – all important parameters in obtaining a quality plant, stated the head of the unit.
